The Outdoor Swimming Society (The OSS) was established in 2006 to pioneer outdoor swimming in rivers, lakes, lido and seas and it prides itself on originality, a kind heart and free spirits.
Led by Founder Kate Rew, The OSS has driven overwhelming cultural change in the way outdoor swimming is viewed and the number of people who take part in it with the society increasing from 300 members to over 100,000 members in less than 15 years. Full of doers, thinkers and creatives, The OSS community and team nurtures talents and personal time to drive change. The last 15 years has enabled The OSS to create a culture of swimming habits, inland water access, social swimming networks and open water events, contributing to the lido revival, and the current art, science and culture around swimming globally.
The OSS prides itself on originality, a kind heart and free spirit. Staying true to their renegade and maverick roots, they have chosen to remain a volunteer run society that does not charge for membership. Offering a place to belong, and remain free to lead from the front, to set their own agenda and to do what they find inspiring and fun. They would love you to join the community here.
The “most magical club in the world” embraces swimming’s ability to enlarge and celebrate the beauty of every day, and enhance the landscape and people we meet within it. Kate Rew and her team have created a water paradise for all of their members with their members taking part in all types of swimming all over the world.
We are so excited at Swimcap.com to be partnering with The OSS to support the “Lakes for Level Water” event to provide fundraising for bespoke swimming lessons for children with disabilities when the pools re-open their doors. As the pools aren’t open just yet and we love a challenge we are taking a dip in our local lakes to raise as much money as we can for Level Water.
When: Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th August 2020
Where: Participating lakes (see the list on the Level Water website)
Distance: 1km, 3km, 5km, 10km, or choose your own
This event will run within Covid-19 guidelines and will not be run as a mass participation event with a mass start. There will be reduced numbers, staggered starts and social distancing in place at all lakes. The challenge will be organised the same way as your usual lake swims. Please read and adhere to the governments Covid-19 guidelines on outdoor swimming.
There are some amazing prizes to be won! To enter, book a slot at participating open lakes and set up your own JustGiving page. We would love everyone to aim to raise £50!
Happy swimming and thank you for all of your support!
